Hummel have unveiled Everton’s new 2021/2022 away kit 🔗, inspired by “The Black Watch” strip of 1881/1882, which Everton have confirmed will be worn on Sunday for the first time.

The bold new Hummel Everton away shirt 🔗 is coloured black with horizontal burnt orange sash stripe and Cazoo sponsorship logo, positioning the Everton badge, in black with burnt orange features, superimposed on the top-left of the stripe before it ends at the shoulder. The shorts and socks are both coloured black.
The new Everton away kit features hummel’s “ZEROH2O” dry-dye technology which involves a revolutionary new process ensuring “zero water consumption, zero wastewater and 50% per cent reduction in energy consumption during the dying phase of production.”
Hummel’s Happy First Season at Goodison Park
Hummel’s three-year kit deal with Everton 🔗 was announced almost exactly one year ago, and saw record sales of Toffees’ kits during the partnership’s current debut season. A statement by Everton confirmed that “A successful first year of Everton’s technical partnership with iconic Danish sportswear brand hummel saw the Club and its retail partner Fanatics, a global leader in licensed sports merchandise, achieve record sales across all three 2020/21 kits.”

Everton’s new away shirt for 21/22 sees a dramatic change to black with horizontal burnt orange coloured shoulder-to-hip sash stripe and features – from the yellow with blue trim in 20/21.
Another striking change is the Hummel logo which is now tonal grey on a black background and difficult to make out (a feature which may be later changed if it proves problematic – simply changing from black to burnt orange in keeping with the rest of the kit seems the obvious choice).

Hummel’s New ECO8 Technology
Everton’s new kit will be the first football kit in the world to feature Hummel’s new “ECO8” technology. Hummel ECO8 shirts are manufactured from high-performance Polyester which is created using up to eight recycled plastic bottles.
“Everton is the first football club to wear shirts made with the new hummel ECO8 technology; the Club is one of the most innovative and forward-thinking in the Premier League and we’re excited to make the shirt available for Everton fans, wherever they might be in the world.”
The Toffees’ new shirts are manufactured in Vietnam.

Back to 1881 and “The Black Watch”

Everton’s new 2021/22 Hummel away kit makes a bold statement. The black and burnt orange takes its inspiration from Everton’s 1881/1882 season when the Toffees became known as “The Black Watch” due to the kit’s similarity to the British Army regiment.
An Everton statement read, “The authentic nod to the ‘Black Watch’ kit of 1881/82 – the third season of Everton’s existence – comes following fan calls for the revered strip to be replicated and to celebrate the Club’s role as a pillar of the community for more than 140 years.”
The Club’s statement continued, “The original strip was worn for home matches – then a series of friendlies and local cup fixtures played on Stanley Park – with Everton not adopting its famous royal blue jersey until 20 years later in 1901.”
Everton Play Champions City in New Away Kit

Everton fans will get the chance to see the new Hummel away kit in Premier League action for the first time on Sunday, when Carlo Ancelotti’s side travel to the Etihad to face EPL champions Manchester City 🔗 in the final league game of the 2020/2021 season.
As expected, the Toffees have today confirmed that Everton’s new Hummel away kit, “will be worn by the First Team for Sunday’s final Premier League fixture of the season away at Manchester City.”
10,000 home fans will be allowed into Sunday’s curtain-closer at the Etihad after Covid-19 social distancing restrictions were recently eased by the UK Government, allowing limited numbers of football fans to return to football stadiums all over England.
The move was announced as part of the UK Government’s “Elite sport Stage Five – Return to Competition: Safe Return of Spectators” 🔗 statement on 16th May 2021, which went into effect the following day.
After Everton’s match at the Etihad Stadium Manchester City will collect and lift the 2020/2021 Premier League trophy before performed a lap of honour around the pitch.
City Say Farewell to Legend Kun
Manchester City fans will then say farewell to Kun in a special ceremony to departing Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero 🔗, who is also called “Kun” – a nickname from the cartoon “Kum-Kum”. Aguero (official website en.sergioaguero.com 🔗) is considered to be one of the greatest players in Premier League history and has been at Manchester City for the past 10 seasons, scoring 182 goals in 274 EPL appearances 🔗.

Everton’s new away kit launch video 🔗 was posted to Everton’s official YouTube channel on Friday morning (21st May 2021), lasting 1 minute 5 seconds.
The video starts with an 1881 quote from a 19th-century English newspaper called the Liverpool Courier 🔗, “A motley mix of playing shirts dyed black by the club secretary” – then onto the slogans “ONE UNIFORM. ONE TEAM. ONE FUTURE” and “WELCOME TO THE BLACK WATCH” with atmospheric music playing.

The following scene is introduced with dramatic violin music and shows a reel displaying black and white video footage of Everton players with different football trophies celebrating in football stadiums and in open top parades.
There are intermittent flashes of Everton’s new black and burnt orange kit teamwear and Hummel’s famous chevron logo, as well as Everton’s iconic “1878” club badge featuring the Everton Lock-Up (also known as Prince Rupert’s Tower) with a laurel wreath on either side, and the Latin motto “Nil Satis Nisi Optimum” (Nothing but the best is good enough).
The new Everton away kit is revealed midway through the video, alongside the motto “WE STAND AS ONE” and shows the kit worn by Ben Godfrey 🔗, Dominic Calvert-Lewin 🔗 and Lucas Digne 🔗 (Calvert-Lewin and Digne are shown with a brown leather retro football with “Everton” printed in gold letters). The new Everton away shorts are shown with the Everton badge in all-black.
The final scene shows the Everton crest and Hummel logo in white on a black background with raindrops above the words “WE STAND AS ONE” followed by the Club’s online retail website store address “EVERTONDIRECT.COM” displayed in the burnt orange dual colour of the new Everton away kit.
